Pray for nice weather!! December is ann Last month the ALR rode to the Liberty Ave. Elementary School in Thomasville to deliver donated school supplies for the underprivileged children there. A large crowd was assembled in front of the school as the ALR rode up the sidewalk and circled the flag pole. The children were screaming with joy and the staff seemed really excited about the noisy motorcycles at their school. Kids came to the windows and opened the doors to see what all the fuss was about. We had a joyous time as we visited and told the kids what the American Legion was all about, showed off our bikes and answer their questions. The next trip was to The Children s Home in Lexington. There were students and staff waiting in the parking lot with signs reading " Welcome ALR". More children began to show up as we talked and laughed and answered their curious questions about the bikes, the military, the war and the Legion. We delivered several large boxes to both schools thanks to our ALR member Bob (B.L.B.) Holland in his truck. Final preparations for the annual Veterans Christmas Ride to Salisbury on December 16th at 1130am are firming up. We need all ALR members to to get out and solicit the business they shop at as well as their doctors and attorneys for donations and door prizes. Don't forget your employers. If you need posters, tax ID letters or donation jars please contact Wayne Brown or myself or check at the Post canteen. On the morning of Nov. 18th the Winston-Salem Veteran's Parade traveled down 4th and Liberty Streets with many floats, marching bands, antique military vehicles and many antique cars to include the Corvair Club. Also in attendance were the motorcycles from the Post 55 American Legion Riders (ALR), the Rolling Thunder and The Patriot Guard Riders.
