                                   News Letter September 2008

 

We are very proud to let everyone know that we have started a website www.american legion nc.com. then click onto Huntersville and a news letter.

 

There are a lot of activities planned for the next couple of months.

Please try to support your post by taking part in at least one activity to help support our Veterans and our troops. Examples of activities are: Homeless Veterans, Wounded Warrior Project, Nursing Home support, and many others.

 

Legion News

 

The Wounded Warrior Project: Thank You to all who supported our “Show Them We Care” banner project. We raised $1,000 for gift cards for the Vets at Walter Reed Army and Bethesda Navel hospitals in Maryland. The ride to Washington will take place in October. We will continue to support the warriors through out the year.

 

The golf outing that was September 6th was a huge success with 57 golfers in attendance.

 

The Legion and S.A.L. Early Bird was September 20th everyone that came had a good time.

 

The Veterans Salisbury Picnic is scheduled for October 5th at 4pm. The Legion will be cooking 2 hams, all others are asked to bring a covered dish or dessert. As always Volunteers are needed. We will be meeting at the Legion at 3pm. If you cannot go and would like to send a dish, please have it at the Legion by 2:30.

 

Post 321 has been awarding Mother Stars and Certificates to our Mothers with Children currently serving in our armed forces. If you know of a family with a son or daughter currently serving, please contact our commander so he can arrange to have the banners presented to the Parents.

The Children’s Christmas Party will be held this year on December 13th 1pm till.... The party is for member’s family’s children. All you need to do is to bring a gift worth no more than $25.00. Make sure your Childs name is on the gift and Santa will give the gift to your child. There will be pony rides, games, food and more.

 

 

L.I.T. (Life Insurance)$1,000 Free Accidental Death Benefit

You must activate the insurance and it is good as long as you are a Legion member in good standing. There are three ways to activate:

1. Send in the enrollment form or card.

2. Call the toll free # 1-800-235-6943

3. Go to www.the LIT.com and enroll on line, once activated keep the document with your other important papers.

 

We have a large Hall For Rent for all occasions. If interested contact Post or Donald Skipper @704-575-6097.These rentals help to keep the post open.

 

Our meetings for the American Legion are on the 1st Thursday of the month @ 7pm. A meal is served @ 6:30pm.Come out and participate.

Dear Fellow Legionnaires

As you all know we are in a new membership year. All dues we collect are for 2009. The American Legion bills 6 months in advance for the next year. If you haven’t paid by February 28th you are considered late. So if you can find your card that was mailed from National, please send in your membership.

Sons of the American Legion News

Monthly Dinner:  Every 3rd Saturday of the month, S.A.L. has a monthly social at the Post Lounge all members and wives are invited to attend. We ask for donations to help support and fund the food for this event. It’s all ways good night out for everyone. Due to other activities in October we will be meeting October 11th and November 15th.

 

S.A.L. will be having their Annual Halloween Party October 25th from 7pm-1pm.Admission is free. There will be a D/J and Karaoke Cash Bar, Set Ups, 50/50 raffle and a $50.00 prize for best costume. Bring a covered dish or dessert and join us for a good time.

 

S.A.L. will be having their 10th Annual 5K Dinner, November 22ndat 7:30pm.Dinner includes 2 steak dinners and a chance to win $5,000, and many other cash prizes. Tickets are $100.00. So get yours soon, there are only 125 tickets sold for this event.

Our meetings for S.A.L. are the third Thursday of the month between 7-7:30pm.Please come out and join our meetings.

Ladies Auxiliary News

 

The Ladies Auxiliary would like to thank everyone who donated school supplies. The supplies were given to Huntersville Elementary school and were very much appreciated.

 

Starting October 1st the Ladies Auxiliary will be collecting non-perishable food for the local food banks for Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday season. Please bring your NON-Perishable food donations to the post.

 

The Ladies Auxiliary’s Early Bird Dinner will be October 11th at 6pm Everyone who has paid their dues early are invited to attend. If you have not paid your dues, please do so ASAP.

 

The Ladies Auxiliary is looking for New Members to join our Unit. Legion Members if your wife would like to become a member or if you know of someone else who would like to become a member, please have them Call Michelle at 704-992-2920. The next Ladies Auxiliary meeting is

November 2nd at 3pm in the Legion meeting hall. The ladies meet the first Sunday every other month at 3pm

 

The Ladies Auxiliary has started a new fundraiser in conjunction with Food Lion. Simply come into the legion and pick up a form, fill it out and every time you use your MVP card a portion of the proceeds will come to the ladies Auxiliary. The proceeds will go towards helping the ladies continue the great work with the Vets.
